Just curios, I read through Melvin Powers book and worked on self hypnosis for quite some time, but never got past maybe a 2 or 3 out of 10 as far is “hypnotized” goes. What about you guys? From 1-10 how far have you gotten and how long did it take to get there?
January 12, 2021 at 10:15 am #28645JavierModeratorHi Clifton. I’ve been doing SH for a year or maybe more. And I’ve learnt how to do it thanks to Melvin Power’s book too. The thing is that I think I’ve never been able to get past a 3 or so, probably (anyway, I don’t know how to grade it, so I’ve probably gone further; I don’t know if this makes sense).
But in any case, I feel it helps me a lot, and I find it more effective than ASTs, although I still do them too.
From the first time I began doing self-hypnosis, until the moment I began to feel the effects, it might have taken 2 or 3 weeks. So we must be patient and keep on doing it. Even if we’re not sure we’re doing it right (if so, this is the place to ask!). We have to keep on doing it, we will start feeling the effects sooner or later. It’s just a matter of time.January 12, 2021 at 10:50 am #28646John KerrParticipantI’ve read the book twice and just about to try self hypnosis for the first time tonight.
I suppose just a question of being patient with it until I feel any effect. I’m looking forward to trying it.January 12, 2021 at 2:18 pm #28647JavierModeratorHi John. Exactly. It’s a matter of patience. Give it time. Try to get as relaxed as you can. This is extremely important. Have you watched some of the latest videos of coaching sessions by Prathusha. She explains relaxation extremely well.

Yeah, I watched the video with Prathusha and Kelly and found it helpful.
Thanks again, for the advice.January 13, 2021 at 8:00 am #28658JavierModeratorThat’s the one I was referring to. Glad you found it helpful 🙂
January 20, 2021 at 10:00 am #28720AnonymousInactiveHi Clif,
I did not use self-hypnosis in my journey to self cure, but I have heard that many people struggle at first with self-hypnosis and then become masters of it. It just takes time and practice, as was the case with ending our stutters.

That way you get a better idea of what it feels like to be in a hypnotic state and is easier to do it yourself. It is probably quite different from what you imagine! Just a very relaxed, aware and pleasant state to be in, during which positive changes can occur.
April 9, 2021 at 7:52 am #29322AnonymousInactiveMonica, that is exactly why WSSA has recruited a team of Certified Hypnotists (CH’s) to help WSSA subscribers to hypnotize students to help them overcome their speech anxieties and to help them with self-hypnosis. Hypnosis and self-hypnosis are ideal methods to promote relaxation and remove barriers so that you can speak with self-confidence and speech fluency.
Anyone can book a session with them using this link: https://worldstopstuttering.org/buy-mind-training/
June 6, 2021 at 11:27 pm #29996Adam WerthParticipantSuppose we go to a certified hypnotist for stuttering which I did 3 yrs ago and it doesn’t help….
What makes anyone think self hypnosis would help us with stuttering when work with a certified hypnotist was not effective……??
Please don’t think this is negative post either—-IM telling it like it is! If you think the post is negative, it will be negative!
