Hi Gabor, I also experienced this and realized that a lot of people who don’t stutter go through this. One thing that has helped me is speaking like a king and taking more pauses. You’ll actually sound more mature and it’ll allow you to relax so you’re less nervous about finding the perfect word.

One affirmation I have created for myself is “I will trust the crutches”. I feel like sometimes in the heat of experiences, we must doubt the crutches at the last second BUT we have to remember to trust them and allow them to do my magic! This is a big one that has helped me and I feel my auto-suggestions are evolving. What are yours Javie?

I would say my favorite ones have to be word linkage, extreme pronunciation, and speak like a king. I feel like the best speaker in the world honestly when i use them! The one I need to work on more is whispering!

Sorry I should have posted my question above. But my question was to anyone: what is your favorite crutch and what are 3 crutches you should be using more? Remember it’s important to be familiar with all crutches so we have as many weapons against stuttering.

Okay yeah, that makes sense. I’ll really try to focus 100% on the crutches. I am trying and when I remember, it works perfectly. I guess like you said it’s just a matter of practice and patience for me to automatically remember

Thank you for all the amazing comments!

Marianne, I would say reading outloud helped me the most initially but I can’t decide what helped the most in the long-run honestly. Reading outloud everyday for an hour, doing 2 sessions of auto-suggestions a day and learning the crutches all really helped me in my opinion equally.

One thing I also do is mirror practice. I look at the mirror and keep practicing common words like my name and where I’m from for 5 minutes. Then I do auto-suggestions for 5 minutes like “I can easily say my name”.

I never thought I would get over stuttering but Lee’s methods have proved my old self wrong!

    Hope that helps!!
