Hola otra vez Nacho.
JavierModeratorHola Nacho. Bienvenido a WSSA. Disculpa haber tardado en responder.
Has venido al sitio adecuado. Si hablas inglés, te recomiendo que te “sumerjas” por completo en este programa y todos los recursos a tu disposición. Cualquier duda, este es mi email: [email protected].
Un saludo desde Madrid!JavierModeratorHello! That is a very good question.
If you pronounce very clearly every word and every syllable, you will see that you won’t be able to speak fast, and this helps us with our fluency and also elevates our speech.Having said this, extreme pronunciation doesn’t mean stretching words or sounds, it just means exaggerating the pronunciation, that’s all. Stutterers tend to speak very fast, especially when under pressure, as they will want to say what they want to say as soon as possible, but this strategy makes our speech even worse.
I highly recommend you to watch some of Prathusha’s coaching sessions, as she’s extremely good at using this Crutch: in our Video Library (go to “Resources” -> “Video Library”, and in the search bar you’ll find several filters. One category is “Coach”. Choose “Prathusha” and in “Crutches”, choose “9”. It is easier to see how it is done than to explain it here.
Just remember that our Crutches help us avoid appearing speech disabled and at the same time not speak in a robotic or unnatural way.
I hope this helps 🙂
JavierModeratorI don’t have Telegram. You can always send me an email to [email protected].
Another thing you can do is join our WSSA Whatsapp Group, and talk with other PWS/PWSS. Just go to Resources -> Daily Practice Sessions. Over there you will find a link to join us.JavierModeratorHi Anomitro. My name is Javier, and I am a PWSS and one of WSSA’s Certified Stuttering Therapists. First of all, welcome to our community!
Relapses happen when you have not completed the entire program, with all its phases:
1) Become a PWSS (4 weeks without bad incidents).
2) Eliminate the residual stuttering fears and speech anxiety.
3) Learn to love to speak everywhere.
4) Adopt a mind training regime to improve/change other aspects of yourself that are not related to your speech and thus consider stuttering a blessing in your life.So maybe you completed the first stage and started working on the next one, and then stopped when you reached a level of comfort in regards to your speech, but you did not finish the program. So the residual fears started to grow again, until you eventually had a relapse.
The good news is that you defeated stuttering once. You can do it again. You know how to do it. And this time it should be easier.
Start again doing at least 2 daily mind training treatments, reading aloud and mastering the Crutches and your Emergency Speech Plan. Come to our weekly SAM Meetings and Daily Practice sessions. You can do it!
JavierModeratorHi Noah! Welcome to WSSA. Sorry for replying so late. Do come to as many SAM Meetings as possible, no matter where you are in your speech journey. You can always learn something new from these meetings and if you participate, you will be expanding your comfort zones. I also recommend you to go to the daily practice sessions. They are incredibly helpful. Many of the people I’ve helped say they are among the most helpful resources of WSSA!
Keep us posted with your progress!!JavierModeratorHi Karim,
thanks for the information.
We have something that we believe is much more helpful: our Group Practice Sessions and our weekly SAM Meetings. As a member of WSSA, you can join as many of these meetings as you want.
The Group Practice Sessions are precisely that: in small groups (usually not more than 8 people) of PWS and PWSS you talk to each other, practice Speech Plans and Crutches, you learn from how others use the, you help each other…. Many of my students say that these meetings have been one of the things that have helped them the most.
The link and schedule of these meetings is in “Resources” -> “Daily Practice Sessions”.The SAM Meetings are larger meetings (on average there are around 25-30 attendees including coaches, PWS and PWSS). Some of our SAM Meetings are open discussions, where anyone can ask questions, and we discuss about them (we usually have these open discussions on the first Saturday of every month).
In other SAM Meetings we have a main speaker, who is a PWSS and talks about how they stopped stuttering and their speech journey. After that, everybody is invited to make comments and questions. Finally, in other SAM Meetings, one of the coaches talks about a specific topic related with stuttering and speech.
So, as you can see, in the SAM Meetings you can meet Lee Lovett and the rest of the coaches, you can meet othe PWSS and PWS, ask questions, or simply attend as a mere listener. In any case, here you’ll learn the latest updates on our Neuroscience Method to Stop Stuttering.
To join these meetings you need to click on “Resources” -> “Speech Club Hangout & Therapy”. You can watch the recordings of our past SAM Meetings in the “Videolibrary”, and then, in the filters on the left, chose “Speech Club”.Finally, we also have a whatsapp group that members can join. The link to join is in “Resources” -> “Daily Practice Sessions”.
I hope you find this helpful!
JavierModeratorHi Karen. I got your email, but I haven’t had time to read it until now, sorry. I’m going to reply you in just a moment.
JavierModeratorMy best advice, due to the time difference, would be to watch recordings of the SAM Meetings and coaching sessions. There are many where we drill Crutches and Speech Plans, so they should be very helpful.
The best way to master the Crutches is practice, practice, and more practice. Practice them when you read aloud, use them when speaking in low-pressure situations too, even if you don’t need them.
And, of course, if you need extra help, you can always purchase coaching sessions.
I’ve coached people from Australia before, so my morning time is your evening time, so we can make that work if needed.JavierModeratorHi Kaz! Welcome to WSSA. My name is Javier and I am one of WSSA’s Certified Coaches. I used to be very, very severe stutterer, and I’m fluent now, so I believe that if I have been able to do it, 99% of PWS can do it too!!
Do join us in our weekly speech club meetings (SAM) and daily practice sessions, and meet with other PWS/PWSS and work on your speech with the rest of us!
I hope to see you tomorrow at SAM! You can find the links to all these meetings in the “Resources” section of our website.Keep us posted with your progress!
