Adam WerthParticipant
how do I not preplan my words??? I’m reading aloud every night and repeating the affirmations but nothing!
I know what the tools are!
use different voice registers
modulation
tell a story of a troubled word
use a starter word or sound to spit out a troubled word
smile
extreme pronunciation
dropping letters and skipping words……………
use synonyms
dont pre-plan…and speak immediately without hesitation………..!
use passion and enthusiasm!!
How are we to know when we know when a troubled word will come upon us so we know what crutch to use???
Thinking crutches all the time is so exhausting………
How many former PWS had stuttering that was totaly unpredicatable????
Adam WerthParticipantI know his name–that’s my nickname for Lee!!
Adam WerthParticipant26 or 27 yrs before I found Lovedude’s book..back in 1993……my resource teacher in 8th grade said it best…..
“Adam OVERCOMES his stuttering through a truly positive attitude and great sense of humor”……..
Case closed! Need I say more!!!! I rest my case! I was using a so called “crutch” 26 or 27 yrs before knowing what a crutch was….!!
I still remember making PHONE calls back in 7th and 8th grade in early 90’s with VERY little trouble…..without therapy at the time…………..
Maybe I was being spontaneous and not planning any words…….???
Maybe I didn’t give a rat’s (you know what!)……….I didn’t need Lovedude then!!!
December 5, 2020 at 3:08 am in reply to: Should you finish a PWS sentence when they are stuttering? #28385Adam WerthParticipantI already replied to this, but I was unable to add to it….
If a stutterer is mild, they most likely have little trouble…so they probably prefer to speak on their own…..
For the more troublesome cases……..is it right to wade AND WAIT through a person’s stutter almost forever GIVING THEM PERMISSION TO SUFFER AND NOT HELP THEM BY COMPLETING words and sentence??
They know what they want to say…and they almost can say it…but they simply can’t say it. Are you one to be cruel and let them hurt themselves by letting them stutter a thunderstorm and not help them…..??
Being “patient” for a terrible stutter problem is sort of like giving them permission to put themselves through hell. But for mild cases, more power to ya!
Adam WerthParticipantIs memory the same as xperience???
Creating fluid experiences that will stick in our memories….
Aren’t memories what we remember in the past???
December 1, 2020 at 1:18 am in reply to: Do you guys think that as PWS/PWSS, we can ever truly love public speaking? #28334Adam WerthParticipantIf one is flamboyant, a clown, and loud….like me—-I think that will make one love to speak!
Or if one is naturally extremely articulate….that quality alone means loving to speak…..
December 1, 2020 at 1:11 am in reply to: What is the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you as a PWS? #28332Adam WerthParticipantDoes this count as embarrassing…..??
Being asked if I know sign language when trying to use a crutch out in public……I was still not understood even when using a crutch….and I was asked “do you know sign language??”
That really angered me–I certainly wish I had known sign language. When trying to use a crutch still made it hard to be understood…….I was dropping letters of some hard words that I had no clue I was going to stumble on. The clerk didn’t understand me when I tried the Lovett tactic…..
December 1, 2020 at 1:03 am in reply to: The reason WHY, it’s hard to use crutches in public………… #28331Adam WerthParticipantDo you know what the choral effect is?? I know all of us here have heard about the choral effect and delayed auditory feedback or D.A.F for short. Fortanetly, that for me eliminates word planning and hesitations and repititons and blocks…..unfortanetaly, the Lovett Method doesn’t include delayed auditory feedback and the choral effect. If I can hear myself -my voice delayed, that would enable me to use crutches-it would slow me down and make things easier. And that’s a positive. Don’t look at it as negative. See it as a positive! That crutch-the choral effect and delayed auditory feedback was never addressed unfortenately and was never a part of the Lovett method.

I’m not here to bash!!! You got the wrong idea mates:-)
I just am not sure if your understanding where I’m coming from…..
Do you know how many NON- pws change words, and modulate their voice and are expressive without having a stutter problem…??? I have heard lots!
YES, I believe in self cure-but shouldn’t a self cure be done the way the PWS wants it to be???
The crutches simply have not beaten the source of my own problem……
I have repeated affirmations many many times…and they just don’t sink in…
In high pressured situations where I’m not alone, it’s tough to remember crutches…….
When your in a therapy room it’s easy to use tools and techniques………
Step outside the therapy room, your in the real world and thinks aren’t so relaxed…..
I simply don’t think you have understood where I’m coming from in my last couple posts…..
Adam WerthParticipantIf any treatment is wrong for a stutter…they aren’t going to follow through without it……! Just because methods can help hundreds or thousands, doesn’t mean the methods will work for every single person in the world!
Yes a person can be cured…but if the methods are wrong for them they wont go through with it! They will find other methods that WILL work for them and be self-cured!
November 21, 2020 at 6:08 am in reply to: What is the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you as a PWS? #28218Adam WerthParticipantThis might be wrong but we KNOW we aren’t mentaly disabled…….but let them think we are mentally disabled!!!! The people that ask friends if we are mental disabled don’t even know us-we don’t know them…..just brush those ignorant strangers aside and press on!
I got called a name today by some stranger and I thought “shows what you know don’t it!”
Adam WerthParticipantI never whisper–no one can hear a whisperer!!!!
If we realisticaly had laryngitis…we would be forced to whisper!!
Why should we pretend to have laryngitis so we can whisper—-others won’t be fooled!!!
November 21, 2020 at 5:25 am in reply to: What are you finding the hardest part of the Lovett program? #28212Adam WerthParticipantReading aloud is not the same as spontaneous conversation–it wont prepare us! And I still read aloud—-hearing fluency??? I hear fluency all the time from others!!
November 21, 2020 at 5:23 am in reply to: Should you finish a PWS sentence when they are stuttering? #28211Adam WerthParticipantYES!!! If the problem is mild….don’t help with words!!! If the problem is nasty–definately fill in troubled words!!! Some advice from those “therapists” are more harm than good!!!
September 24, 2020 at 1:46 pm in reply to: Reading aloud is not real conversation….sorry to say!! #27793Adam WerthParticipantthanks for your tip Gabor!
