Javier, I totally agree. I’ve learned through using the methods that my anxiety is lowered massively when I pick a crutch on a word I’m fearing saying. I’ve learned to notice the anxious situation, pick out a crutch if need be, be a little anxious, use the crutch, and then not be anxious anymore. This is very true for saying my first name. Thanks!

Leah, I definitely will replay that interview over and over. I’ve proved that I can be less anxious when doing a speech anxiety provoking situation. And that is an amazing story! I always tell you I wish I could be as confident in my speech as you are! 🙂

Speech success today. Did a job interview and absolutely crushed it. It was the first time that I had courageously adventured into the unknown with my speech and wasn’t anxious (maybe like 30% anxious). Never stuttered and the interviewer even said she had overcame stuttering in her life. We really hit it off and it was one of my greatest speech successes so far! 🙂

For some reason I never saw these replies. Thanks for the replies Gabor and Javier! 🙂

Which part of your name are you getting stuck on? My name is Adam so to say my name I use crutch 4 and it works everytime! I kind of developed a new feared letter which was “St” (mostly the ‘t’ that got me) so I drop the ‘t’ and it still sounds the same, I’m obviously still crafting it.

This is a great thread Gabor. So far since I learned crutch 4 I haven’t blocked on my name ONCE since taking the program. THat is my biggest success to date. I have trouble with vowels and find that linking words or using crutch 4 right before a vowel (like my name) really helps and it has lead to 100% success so far so I am extremely pleased with that, that is a success everyday I have to say my name.

Hi Javier, yea this happens to me every time I read aloud and use crutches. I feel confident and ready to tackle the day and it keeps the crutches fresh before a days use!

Well said Javier. I see it kind of like weight loss. Some people find it offensive if you congratulate them on their weight loss or mention they lost weight; it is probably the same with speech. Just remember that you are improving your speech for yourself and if people notice then hey that’s great. I’m personally on a weight loss journey and lost 50 pounds but to my surprise no one said a word really. I am not mad no one has noticed, same with speech. Before I took this program I was stuttering more and more around my family, then I learned the crutches and now I barely block let alone stutter infront of my family. I still have a little bit of work to do. But even they haven’t said “oh your speech has improved” so it might just not be a common thing to say. We are after all 1% of the population!

    Hi Sun,
When I read aloud in the beginning of taking the program I had all the crutches printed out so I could glance over and practice them as I read aloud and practice combining them (highly recommend combining them). Eventually after practicing for 2 months I found all the combinations of Lee’s techniques that I have found most desirable as you said haha. So when I read aloud I am always alternating between the crutches I am comfortable with as I go but I don’t stutter that much and never stutter when reading aloud so this is pretty easy for me luckily. So you can do what Lee says which is each crutch at a time, but I like to use all the ones I am comfortable with at once and rotate between them, it feels the most natural sounding to me too.

I’m definitely not over the fear haha but I have found 3 or 4 different ways to say my name that are comfortable for me and haven’t failed. I still think of my name before I say it I just make sure to use 1 of the 4 ways to say my name (mostly crutch 4).

Mirko, I feel the exact same way about my speech. I face threats of new and old feared letters/words so I practice more and more of the crutches to see if I can smooth it out.

I was honestly just trying to be honest with Sun in how I feel at the moment when I use a crutch. She asked if you feel fear or safety. I still feel fear but only because like I said, I am in that in between phase.

Oh yes Javier I see what you are saying that I have used the crutch before and it worked. But what hasn’t left me is that feeling of “who knows but I will use the crutch” whenever I have to say my name for example. I don’t have that confidence just yet that I know 100% I won’t stutter. But Leah said something great to Sun that would answer my question^. All I am trying to say is that I am still in that in between phase of stutterer and fluent so I don’t feel 100% confident just yet!
