John KerrParticipant
Well done, Adam! All the times I’ve seen you in the SAM meetings, you speak fluently without any detectable stutter. The more we practice the crutches and mind training the better we all get each day.
I genuinely thought I’d struggle when I gave my SAM Talk but I was mindful of the crutches and it certainly helps when you try and become a more exaggerated form of yourself when giving a presentation.John KerrParticipantHi Sun,
What you could do when using crutch 1 when reading aloud is to drop the first letter of the first word in each sentence and not on every word. What I do is this:
Day 1 practice crutch 1 for 30 minutes in the afternoon….practice crutch 11 for 30 minutes in the evening
Day 2 practice crutch 2 for 30 minutes in the afternoon…practice crutch 11 for 30 minutes in the evening.
I do this everyday for each subsequent crutch. Also, when using crutch 1 on a long word with say 2 or 3 syllables you only have to drop the first letter of that word.
I really think you should practice crutch 11 as it contains many elements and for me, it really improved my speech when I first started using it.
I have seen you talk at the SAM meetings and your speech sounds great.
I hope this helps!
JohnJohn KerrParticipantLeah,
I would never have thought of my speech as soothing or relaxing. I always thought of my accent sounding like ‘ barbed wire & broken glass’ lol. Thank you for the compliment!
Don’t you think the SAM meetings are great? I really enjoy listening to all the different people from America, South Africa, Spain, India etc.
I really like listening to you and you always have something worthwhile to say during the meetings. I’ve certainly picked up a few ideas and tips from you, Javier and Prathusha.
Such a great community where everyone helps one another.John KerrParticipantHi Javier,
Thanks for your kind words and I really surprised myself as I actually enjoyed giving the talk and answering questions. In the days beforehand, I was stressing myself and working myself into a bit of a frenzy about the Talk. That was completely unnecessary!
Giving the talk was a real milestone for me but I won’t allow myself to be complacent. Daily AST/SHT, reading aloud and use of the crutches is essential.
My advice to anyone giving a SAM Talk is : Be relaxed, be yourself, don’t see it as a chore or something to dread and cracking a few jokes certainly helps as it puts you and others in a relaxed mood.
As usual, Javier…..you made a number of excellent points to myself and Gabor regarding PWS reluctance to trying a different approach as regards to their speech.John KerrParticipantThanks, Gabor.
I agree and some people accused me also of promoting Lee’s book as some kind of affiliate program to get money out of them.January 13, 2021 at 6:50 am in reply to: How relaxed have you gotten yourself using hypnoses? #28657John KerrParticipantHi Xavier,
Yeah, I watched the video with Prathusha and Kelly and found it helpful.
Thanks again, for the advice.January 12, 2021 at 10:50 am in reply to: How relaxed have you gotten yourself using hypnoses? #28646John KerrParticipantI’ve read the book twice and just about to try self hypnosis for the first time tonight.
I suppose just a question of being patient with it until I feel any effect. I’m looking forward to trying it.John KerrParticipantHi Leah,
Thanks for the reply. I agree that it will take a bit of time to slow down the speed of my speech. However, I have slowed it right down and just have to get into the habit of doing this more when talking to strangers. I’ve not had any blocks or repeats for about two weeks. I’ve stuttered for over 40 years but I feel, I’m on the right path.
By the way, I have seen you a lot on the recordings of SAM meetings and I love you’re accent!
I enjoy listening to what you have to say at the meetings as it’s always full of good content.I intend to be at the meeting on Saturday….see you there!
John KerrParticipantHi Gabor,
Thanks for the message. Yes, my latest video was uploaded on Youtube. How are you getting along with the methods etc. I remember seeing you on a few SAM recordings. I’ll try and go to the meeting this Saturday.John
John KerrParticipantHi Tasneem,
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to be at the meeting on Saturday. I have 2 young children that want to go to the park. I will watch the recording.John KerrParticipantHi Tasneem & Javier,
Thanks for the great advice on the crutches. I’ll practice 1 hour on each crutch per day as you suggested and an extra 30 minutes practising reading crutch 11 aloud.
Thanks for the tip!John KerrParticipantHi Javier,
Thanks for the message of support. I have been using crutch 11 all the time since my session with Lee and I feel a difference.
I have a question….When reading aloud for 1 hour each day, do I continue practicing all the other crutches as I’ve been doing and/or reading aloud using crutch 11?John KerrParticipantHi,
Do I call you Tasneem or Leah?
Thanks for the feedback. I read aloud 1 hour a day, 3 daily autosuggestions and the recordings whilst I sleep. I had my 3rd coaching session with Lee yesterday. I was told to use crutch 11 all the time and he seems to think I could be a PWSS within a month.
I talk way too fast and have now to adopt much slower speech. I spoke to a friend on the phone last night using crutch 11 and had no blocks or repeats. I felt good and I have to be mindful to adopt this new mode of speech.
I’ve enjoyed a lot of your videos on coaching and the great advice you give on Speech Masters Club.John
John KerrParticipantHi Tasneem,
Sorry for not replying sooner. I just read your message!
Things are going fine. I had my 1st skype with Lee and I think it went well. However, I was doing too many repeats but I’m now practising the crutches, auto-suggestions 3 times a day and starting to see an improvement. I just have to keep working at it.John
John KerrParticipantHi Javier,
Thanks for the feedback and the kind words.
I plan on reading Lee’s book at least twice more. I have watched a lot of the videos including yours and your speech is great. I’ve got a lot of optimism from the stories and how fluent people are. -
