Hrithik Roshan, who is among the most famous Indian actors, offers another, well-known example of a self-cure of stuttering. While Mr. Roshan has not worked with SAA, he has used and uses one of the regimens that SAA recommends: Reading aloud. In 2011, Mr. Roshan publicly disclosed that he has long had a stuttering problem and that, to combat this problem, he reads aloud extensively and continues to do so to this day. In one article, “Hrithik Loves to Read Each Book Aloud” from Mid-Day, it stated, “Hrithik Roshan is a voracious reader…But what sets him different from other obsessive-compulsive readers is that he reads everything aloud, from books and novels to magazines, and that’s been the case since his childhood….. Hrithik Roshan was able to overcome stammering by reading aloud and stressing on pronunciation and articulation.” Note well that, when reading aloud, Mr. Roshan stresses pronunciation and articulation; by so doing, he trains his mind to focus on thoughts and not on words. Reading aloud thus implants fluency memories to offset stuttering memories and also helps train his mind to think message, not words (which the PWS’ mind has a habit of fearing). While reading aloud, by itself, can lead to a self-cure eventually, the cure can be expedited dramatically by using other methods as well, such as auto suggestion and a variety of methods or tools that will minimize creating new stuttering-memories to combat.
