One of our coaches, Stuart Jameson, was told that he has the “gift of the gab”. I found this so heartwarming. It made me think back to all the compliments I have received since I became a PWS.
I have been told that I am “confident”, “attractive”, “thrilling”, I “speak well”. All words that I would “NEVER” have associated myself with a couple of years ago.
What has someone told you about yourself that left you absolutely in shock?
August 5, 2020 at 9:18 am #27530JavierModeratorHi Tasneem,
several people (strangers) have also complimented my speech.
Yesterday, during one of my coaching sessions, the PWS (used to stutter quite severely), told me that one of his clients complimented his speech. He never thought he would receive such praises, so you can imagine how happy he is now.
The other day, another of the people I coach (now a PWSS) had to present his thesis infront of a court, and he got the highest grade possible. He never thought he would be able to achieve this. He even got an email from the university prasing him for getting such a high grade, and that this is only given to those whose presentation is excellent both in content and the way it is presented (his speech).August 6, 2020 at 7:01 am #27536JavierModeratorA few days ago one of the people I coach, who’s now a PWSS, had to give a presentation of his thesis infront of a court. When we first began speaking, he was terrified of this. Well, he got the highest grade possible, and that wouldn’t have been possible without giving a good oral presentation. He simply focused on being passionate, speaking like a King and other Crutches.
It feels great to hear this from the people we coach. They’re succeeding things they thought to be unachievable!! Everyone can do it! We just need a disire to improve, to believe that we can improve, patience and give our best to make it happen.September 7, 2020 at 3:32 am #27685Adam WerthParticipantWhat if one is so passionate and speak like a king but still stutter?? Not trying to be negative!!! But it can happen!!!!
People that stutter still can have the gift of the gab ya know!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t like getting positive comments like “you sound great adam! Hardly stuttering!!” It’s bad Karma!!! It’s a reminder that things could go downhill when I’m doing great! It’s like a reminder of what I was……or still could be……
September 7, 2020 at 8:22 am #27687JavierModeratorHi Adam,
I think that when we’re so passionate that we end up stuttering is because we began to get too anxious, to speak too fast, not pausing… In other words, not using Crutches while accumulating anxiety, and that’s a problem, because, as you said, we might stutter.
We can be extremely passionate and speak slowly, insterting pauses every few words, modulating our voice, smiling. And when we do this, we don’t accumulate anxiety. At least that’s the way I see it.
And about the lat thing you said on your last comment… I have another way of seeing it. Of course we could relapse and stutter, but the difference between now and before we knew about this program is that now we know the tools to avoid stuttering. It is our choice to use those tools or not.September 30, 2020 at 9:24 am #27826AnonymousInactiveAdam, if you are concentrating on speaking like a King with your FULL attention, meaning that you are focusing 100% on crutch 11 and are still stuttering, then you have either not mastered crutch 11, or you are not focusing all of your attention on it.
It is impossible to concentrate on two things at once. Keep practising and eventually, you will get the hang of it.
