Hi all, I have no idea how I found Lee’s book. I had typed in “stuttering” in Amazon’s website and Lee’s book came up and the reviews were really good so I bought it.
I started reading it straight away and joined this website. I’m still working my way through it.
Due to covid 19, all of my court hearings are now done by telephone and this is really causing me a lot of distress, just hope I can find some relief.
Not sure what else to say but I hope everyone is safe and well.
September 14, 2020 at 6:35 am #27719Prathusha RaviModeratorHi Ali,
I’m Prathusha, one of the certified speech coaches at WSSA Inc., I’m so happy that you found the book on Amazon and obviously it is the most incredible book that is ever written on stuttering and anxiety. I don’t know how much you have read so far !! But try to understand all the crutches that Coach Lee has mentioned and also use it when you speak. This really works !! I have been a PWSS (Person Who Stopped Stuttering) for almost 4.5 years now. All I did was to practice all the 13 crutches all time even when I didn’t need one. I have practiced it so much that I no longer remember how I spoke few years back and I don’t even remember the way I stuttered. I’m completely fluent and crutches have become my style of speech now. If you have any queries please reach out to us!! And if you have trouble understanding the crutches or if you have doubts on how to use them, join WSSA Inc., as a “Stuttering plan” member and request coaching. Now we are giving 3 free coaching sessions to people who join as stuttering plan member before September 30th 2020.
In fluency,
Coach PrathushaSeptember 14, 2020 at 3:31 pm #27720JavierModeratorHi Ali! Welcome to WSSA! If you want to stop stuttering and actually learn to enjoy speaking, no matter the situation, you’ve come to the right place. My name is Javier, I live in Madrid (Spain), I’m a PWSS and a Certified Speech Coach, just like Prathusha. I used to be a severe PWS, so if I’ve been able to do it, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t. It’s a matter of patience and determination.
I strongly recommend you to do the online course about Lee’s Stuttering book. Read the book and at the same time do the online course about the Section(s) you’ve just read. This will help you understand everything much better.
You can also take a look at the Blog (on the Community Section of this website). There’s plenty of useful information and advice, just like here.
And of course, watch the coaching videos (you can filter them, so if you want to watch one focused on a specific Crutch, or Autosuggestions, or other things, you can do so). This should help you a great deal.
And of course, we will be happy to coach you. This will make you stop stuttering much faster, if you follow our advice, of course. Coaches don’t cure anybody, you do. We just give you instructions, but you have to follow them.
Feel free to ask us anything! We’ll be glad to help you any way we can.September 15, 2020 at 12:27 am #27721AnonymousInactiveThank you for the welcome, Prathusha and Javier.
I will definitely take a membership, as advised.
Which one is best to join # “stuttering” or “speech anxiety”?
September 15, 2020 at 7:02 am #27722JavierModeratorHi Ali,
since you are a stutterer/PWS, you should definitely go for the “Stuttering” course. And it is also the most complete program, check here: https://worldstopstuttering.org/signup/The “Speech Anxiety” course is aimed at those who don’t stutter, but are terrified of speaking in certain situations (public speaking, groups of people, strangers…). This course should also be considered our next step as People Who Stopped Stuttering (PWSS). Becoming a PWSS means that we know how to avoid appearing stuttering, but that doesn’t mean that the fears have disappeared. You will conquer fears too, but it takes time, just like it takes time to stop stuttering.
If you have any other questions or comments, please do let us know 🙂
October 2, 2020 at 9:24 am #27838AnonymousInactiveHi Ali,
Keep doing your mind training, reading aloud and practising the crutches all day every day. I used to dread the phone (as most PWS do) and now I answer the phones at my company and make phone calls whenever there is a follow up to be done! Nobody at my company believes that I used to stutter, they are in shock when I tell them.
It is at the point where I would rather call than email, as with a phone call, I can get an answer straight away. Never in a million years did I ever think that given the choice between sending an email and making a phone call, I would choose the phone. I absolutely LOVE answering the phone now, I feel that I need to make up for all the years of texting/emailing when I could have just picked up the phone. I even volunteer to do telephonic follow-ups on behalf of other people.
I hope this gives you some sense of hope that with discipline, consistency and patience, you wil be stutter free within a couple of weeks.
