Hello! That is a very good question.
If you pronounce very clearly every word and every syllable, you will see that you won’t be able to speak fast, and this helps us with our fluency and also elevates our speech.
Having said this, extreme pronunciation doesn’t mean stretching words or sounds, it just means exaggerating the pronunciation, that’s all. Stutterers tend to speak very fast, especially when under pressure, as they will want to say what they want to say as soon as possible, but this strategy makes our speech even worse.
I highly recommend you to watch some of Prathusha’s coaching sessions, as she’s extremely good at using this Crutch: in our Video Library (go to “Resources” -> “Video Library”, and in the search bar you’ll find several filters. One category is “Coach”. Choose “Prathusha” and in “Crutches”, choose “9”. It is easier to see how it is done than to explain it here.
Just remember that our Crutches help us avoid appearing speech disabled and at the same time not speak in a robotic or unnatural way.
I hope this helps 🙂
