(The title sounds negative but I am not intending it to be)
So I follow the subreddit r/stutter. Originally, before I knew the program, this subreddit was extremely depressing. It was 90% negative 10% positive. Most people seemed to accept their speech. Every time I went on I would have an existential crisis about life because some of the experiences and things people said. Well I saw a post in December that said they used the Lovett method, they were a doctor, and they no longer stuttered. I private messaged them congratulating them and they responded to me very late, and said this: After I fixed my speech and didn’t stutter anymore, it was obviously an experience of a huge relief, but it didn’t necessarily make me “happier” because we seem to latch onto the next problem.
I’m telling this story just to say that when you cure yourself (by your own definition) that it won’t make you all of the sudden elated for life, BUT in my estimation it will dramatically relieve stuttering incidences ofcourse when you take the program and if you can simultaneously get over fears you could have a much more opportunistic life (I think, as your speech and fears would be reduced a little).
I also wanted to say that latching onto the next problem in life is fine. It means you identified a flaw and can now work on it, and isn’t that the meaning of life? Personal continual improvement? If you say it isn’t why are you taking the program!? š Anyways, I wish everyone good luck on their journey and as always with the program have patience, determination, and good work ethic!

If they’d become PWSS, they’d most likely find the next excuse to achieve the things I just mentioned.
And stuttering less becomes the new normal. At first, I was very happy when I could speak during a team meeting at my job. Now, it’s just a daily routine, and not exciting at all.
July 16, 2021 at 10:03 am #30328JavierModeratorHi Adam and GĆ”bor. I agree with both of you. Becoming a PWSS doesn’t mean that your life will change completely, that you won’t have any more problems and that life will be wonderful.
Becoming a PWSS means that you no longer stutter. So yes, your life should have improved. You should feel more capable of doing things, you should feel liberated.
You’ve fixed one of your problems in life, but most likely you’ll have others. We all have bills to pay, personal problems, maybe your business is not going as well as you’d like to, and other problems. And you still need to work hard to solve those. But, hey, you got rid of one of the problems that have been rambling in your mind yor years, which is nice.
I can say that as soon as I became a PWSS my life improved a lot: I started to enjoy speaking, to talk more to my family, my friends, I began enjoying speaking to clients. This is something huge for us. I even got a girlfriend (we’ve been together for almost 3 years now). Due to the severity of my stutter, for example, I thought I would never have achieved the latter. So, yes, I am a much happier person now. Before finding Lee Lovett, I think I was about to get into a depression.
But I still have other problems. Problems that any other regular person has: a business to attend, bills to pay, etc. Nonetheless, every day I put all my efforts to be a happier person than the day before. And most days I can say that I succeed at this šAugust 12, 2021 at 7:55 pm #30428Adam PlayfootParticipantFor some reason I never saw these replies. Thanks for the replies Gabor and Javier! š

This is what I ALWAYS TELL EVERYONE!!! Stuttering is not linked to self-esteem, happiness, enlightenment, etc. It is completely separate from anything else that you need to fix in your life. But you know the great thing? You do not need to fix ANYTHING ELSE in order to cure. You can cure just as you are, without improving anything else in your life.
If you so wish, you may fix all the other issues you have in your life, SEPARATE TO STUTTERING. Improving oneself is an awesome goal to have. Curing will not make you happy, just as having a baby will not save a relationship. You need to work on issues individually, and we need to stop believing that stuttering will fix everything in our lives.
I still deal with most of the issues I dealt with before I cured, I just deal with them stutter-free! I got 99 problems, but a stutter ain’t one š
Thank you for your comment!

I feel emancipated!
I am now confident in dealing with most of life’s challenges. -
