I’ve experienced several times that when I try not to plan my words I’m more fluent but I also hesitate much more and it looks like I can’t find the right words.
Did you have any similar experiences in the beginning?
December 16, 2020 at 8:29 am #28477JavierModeratorHi Gábor,
getting to speak using only Crutch 13 is not easy at all.
The Crutches are actually ways to prevent us from thinking words, and focus on other things instead.
In my opinion, one of the easiest ways to speak without thinking words (C-13) is to speak in short bursts, slowly, and being passionate, so hand gestures are very helpful.
Give it a try!December 30, 2020 at 11:24 am #28547AnonymousInactiveGabor, this happened to me too! Once, I was actually asked if English was my first language (because it seemed like I was trying to find the right words all the time). Haha. Nevertheless, this happened for about a month or 2 and then I no longer had the problem.
You have heard me speak now, it never seems like I am trying to find the right words, right? As long as you are not stuttering, you are IMPROVING. Have patience, it will not last long!

One thing that has helped me is speaking like a king and taking more pauses. You’ll actually sound more mature and it’ll allow you to relax so you’re less nervous about finding the perfect word.
January 20, 2021 at 9:12 am #28713JavierModeratorVery well said, Vikram. Normally we sound hesitant when we are talking too fast and without pauses. The opposite of this is Speaking like a King (Crutch 11), and this will enable you to speak in a smoother, more confident way.
You have to make this a habit, and to do it you have to use it all the time, even when you don’t need to use it.January 20, 2021 at 10:01 am #28721AnonymousInactiveGabor, update us on your progress. Is it getting any better?
February 5, 2021 at 8:49 am #28866GáborParticipantYes, I use it instinctively more and more.
And it’s funny, because today I asked a good friend of mine (he never stuttered) if he’s thinking about his words before he speaks. And he told me that “of course, not, I’m never thinking about the exact words” and found that strange that I do.
February 5, 2021 at 9:47 am #28867JavierModeratorThanks for sharing, Gábor. I’m sure that more than one PWS will be mindblown with your post.
April 30, 2021 at 11:13 am #29462GáborParticipantI just want to share that I LOVE crutch #13, it’s so natural to use. 🙂
April 30, 2021 at 12:51 pm #29463JavierModeratorExactly! Once you get to know how to use it, what it feels like, it’s feels that way! We’re all very proud of you and how far you’ve come, Gábor!! 🙂
May 1, 2021 at 8:52 pm #29464GáborParticipantThanks, Javier! 🙂
May 2, 2021 at 10:44 am #29466John KerrParticipantWe’ll done, Gabor!
You keep improving every time I hear you speak. -
